Outsider Inside: Our Side, She Sighed

Ever get a spur of the moment feeling? And you put that feeling into something a little more than you thought you could?

Sometimes I feel like I'm looking at the bright world, lying in the shade and cool of the inside, while everything else is moving on. Sometimes I value that cool shade of the inside, sometimes the light coming through that window feels as if it mocks me. It's filtered warmth, yet only a fraction of it's power can reach me. So I continue to sit inside, longing for the strength to walk past the window and join the world in it's camaraderie, but valuing the cool and safety of the inside. I stand apart; an Outsider inside. (Then more rhyming games because I can.)

Of note, I made a conscious descision to try and forcefully employ a lighting style called chiaroscuro. (Just a fancy art term that comes from Italian, like most art things do. It means "light-dark" and places a theatrical spotlight on the subject. The contrast between light and shadow, as it's name implies, is made to be strongly defined.) Upping the contrast in post helped, and I'm glad I found that smudging method to shade before trying this; I don't think it would have turned out quite as well with my previous method.

Also, more pony-drawing practice. This one gave me a chance to draw wings in a more detailed style than the show does. Flying (or hovering) also gives more variety to poses.

The question: who is this pony? Rainbow Dash? Perhaps. Perhaps not. The Cutie Mark I drew kinda disappeared into the darkness, so I'll leave interpretation of that one up in the air.
